Torpedo-bomber version of the DB-3 (Torpedo, so 'T'). Single torpedo was carried below the fuselage. Except torpedo release hardpoint, aircraft was identical to the DB-3. Built in series, served through the Great Patriotic War.
Winter operation sometimes caused malfunction of torpedo gyroscopic systems, and special 'arctic' version was under development. One of series DB-3T was equipped with enclosed compartment for torpedo, heated with exhaust gases from the engines. Heating system was developed, tested and after minor improvements was recommended for field test at the North Fleet. Tests never took place, and this modification remained experimental.
