Two seat trainer versions of
MiG-21;
MiG-21U (Mongol A/B) is initial trainer
version, based on the
MiG-21F, but with two
cockpits in tandem, larger main and tires appearing on the
PF version.
Other specific features are one-piece forward airbrake, pilot tube above inlet (unlike on the
F),
and deleted armament. Later versions (Mongol-B) had increased-chord tail fin, deeper dorsal spine and
repositioned parachute housing.
MiG-21US is similar to
MiG-21U, but with retractable periscope for
instructor (rear cockpit) and SPS blowing flaps.
MiG-21UM based on the later
MiG-21MF. It has four underwing pylons and R-13-300 turbojet.
